ISTS Footy Pools for 2024 - Round 7
There is controversy over WADA's 2020 decision to allow the Chinese swimmers to participate in the Tokyo Olympics, despite the positive drug tests of 23 Swimmers for TMZ, a heart medication which can increase stamina and reduce recovery times. WADA allowed the Chinese Anti Drug Association to investigate these athletes and CHINADA claimed there were traces of it in a kitchen of the hotel they stayed at. This is in contrast to a Russian Figure Skater who tested positive for the same drug just before the 2022 Winter Olympics and was banned for 4 years after WADA overrode the Russian investigation which had cleared them (much like China had done). Seems like different approaches depending on the country involved. And now the Essendon players from the famous 2013 doping scandal asking to have their names cleared based on the fact they were not informed of the contents of the supplements they were being injected with. It is all very messy indeed.
This was the ANZAC round with a mini service at the beginning of each match. I reckon we all know the Last Post off by heart now. I helped with the ANZAC Dawn Service at the Hallett Cove Beach memorial which was organised by my Lions Club. It is always a poignant service but I have to say some of the Lions and probably the media, like to exaggerate the crowd size. I heard numbers like 7,000 but it always looks more crowded in the dark and this year there was an enhanced sky shot of the scene by a drone which when pumped into some of the online crowd counting web sites, came back with between 1800 and 2000 for the crowd. And that looked more likely than anything over 2500, let alone 3 times that! But it is always a sobering experience and of course the traditional clash between the Bombers and Magpies ended in a Draw which unsurprisingly was not tipped by any of us.
Apart from that Drawn match on ANZAC day, there were really no other upsets so if you are excited about getting 8 right, you might have company!
Anyway, let's get into it and all look together!!
