ISTS Footy Pools for 2024 - Round 9
Happy Mother's Day to all you Mums out there and I hope you managed to enjoy your family either in person or via video call if necessary. At least the AFL only scheduled 2 matches on Mother's Day!
It was a round of super close matches and some big blow-outs. The closest match was the crazy thrilling draw between the Crowies and Lions at AO to end the round of Mother's Day. It wasn't predicted by anyone in case you are wondering and it was th first AFL Drawn game played at Adelaide Oval! For what it is worth, 83% tipped the Crows and the rest tipped the Lions but everyone got it wrong. Then there was Carlton scraping home by a point and beating the Demons which was tipped by 36% of us. The Power upsetting the Cats at home was a serious upset and only tipped by 4% of us. If GWS had won over the Bombers then the Cats would have dropped to third but the Bombers had a comfortable win over the Giants and that wasonly predicted by 22% of us. The third biggest upset was Hawthorn beating the Sainters by 5 points which was only picked by 23% of us.
In terms of blowouts we had the Doggies thumping the Tigers by 91 points, the Suns over North by 68 and the Pies over the Eagles by 66 points.
So how did the Draw and other upsets affect our tipping? Let's all look together!!
ISTS AFL Pools 2024 - Round 9 Results for Tipsters
Yep - you really had to get 7 correct for the round. There was just the one lucky winner this week earning $72.10.
Congratulations to Len Colgan.
This week's ladder has undergone some radical surgery! All on their own at the top of the ladder, we now have Len Colgan on 58 points. He is closely pursued by Patricia Coulthard and Alan Brideson on 57 points. Just a single person back from them in Bruce Thomas on 56 points. Then a small group are staying in touch with Brett Heritage, Jossalyn Murphy, Lisa Morgan and Gary Wood on 55 points. A larger group are still hopeful in Michael Sands, Brian Quick, Darren Garbin, Scott Ainsworth, David Shaw and Justin King on 54 points. Slipping back a bit are Christopher Blake, Marek Pokorny, Heather Mander, Brian Simpson and Tristan Bibbo on 53 points. Hoping for a miracle are Ian Mills, Andrew Crook, Malcolm Parsons, Justin Faggotter, Adam Mather and Kristy Johns on 52 points. At least one of our number are picking draws now in a desparate catchup attempt.
This week's big movers and shakers begins with Jason Allsopp and Grant Wigley up 23, Randall Kiesewetter and Craig Jones up 21, Selene Stone Ainsworth up 20, Steven Burnett up 19, Justin Faggotter up 18, Kate Adriaans up 17, Stephen Stone and Michelle Ah Matt up 14, Karen Teague up 12, Lisa Holloway up 11, Marek Pokorny up 10, Neville Rankine up 9, David Shaw, Vaneet Dhiman, Vicki Allen and Kristy Johns up 8, Chris Sleeman and Karen Hickman up 7, Ed Jacobs and Grant Williams up 6.
The current 32nd last place holder is Helen Douglass who fell 1 places. Last week it was Chris Sleeman who rose 7 spots.
This week there were 40 distinct tips, 12 fewer than last week indicating that many of us thought we knew what we were doing!
The average total score is 49.2 and the average score this round was 4.3 which is surprisingly 0.1 up on last week.
The Power are up to 6th on the ladder with 6 wins from 9 and a cracking win of the cocky Cats at Kardinia Park! Port have the Hawks at home next week on Saturday afternoon and you would think on balance it would be a walk in the park for the Power but we have seen weird stuff happen this year. The Power do have a 9 day break though.
The Crows are still 12th on the ladder with 3 win and a draw from 9. Adelaide travel to the MCG next Saturday afternoon to tackle the Pies which will be a huge test for them after two big matches in the last two rounds.
Round 10 starts on Thursday night with kicks off with the Suns taking on the Catters in Darwin. Make sure you get your tip in for that one before 7pm Adelaide time.
