ISTS Footy Pools for 2026 - Round 19 

There are 9 matches to be tipped this this point on until the end of the minor round.  

FIFA World Cup only has the Final to be played between Spain and Argentina.  England were knocked out by a ferocious and rough Argentinian outfit  1-2.  But there was a consolation prize in the playoff for 3rd place between France and England where the Poms scored 4 goals to nil by France up to half time.   But the French caught up with 3 of their own as England managed to get a 5th goal during the second half but France scored their 4th in injury time to make it possible with their last gasp to level the scores, but England foiled it and rebounded with a goal of their own in the final seconds to win 4-6.   Action packed it was!  Spain and Argentina play off in the Final at 4:30am Adelaide time on Monday morning.

TWO upsets for Round 18!

Our worst tipping this week was just 2% predicting the Bombers over the Giants (who themslevs upset the Cats last week)!  Arguably, the Crows getting up over Sydney was an upset as twice as many of us picked the Swans as did the Crowies!   The Power looked on track to upset the Dockers but Freo's second half left Port behind.   It was the same for a while with the Eagles who took it right up to Brisbane in the early stages.

So with 2 upsets, how many got everything right?   Let's all look together!

Adelaide Crows – stayed at 5th after Brisbane survived their scare against the Eagles in the West and just shade the Crows by 0.4% to steal back 5th.  The Crows host the Magpies at AO on Thursday night in what should be a belter of a match.  Can anyone stop Daicos?  .

Port Adelaide – stayed at 15th on the ladder after their undermanned team put up a great fight against the top of the table Dockers at Adelaide Oval.  Freo were too good in the second half.  Next week - the Power travel to the Gabba to take on another very difficult team in the Lions in the early afternoon on Sunday.

Next week is also still normal.   I am back from Townsville but building up with a Trip to China late this month for 4 weeks with Jenny.

Our worst tipping this week was 22% predicting the Giants over the Catters.  GWS came from behind and Geelong capitulated in the final term to allow the upset.

Port Adelaide – stayed at 15th on the ladder after losing to St Kilda this round.  Next week Port tackle Freo at Adelaide Oval in the twilight match on Saturday.

ISTS Footy Pools for 2026 - Round 17 

All 9 matches to be tipped this week.   This report brought to you from Chinese Hong Kong where I am at a Lions International Conference for 4 nights.  Then back directly to Townsville for the V8 racing there!  A huge 2 weeks!  And there are 12,500 Lions at this event!   Just crazy in the AsianWorld Expo centre but I have my Octopus card on my phone and do travel!

FIFA World Cup is well into the knockout stage in the round of 32.  Australia could not get through after extra time and then messing up the penalty shootout.  The keeper was controversially changed for the penalties  but the strikers didn't do their job either and Australia went down to Egypt 4 to 2.  Other notable knockouts were Germany who until now had ever lost a World Cup penalty shootout and the Netherlands!

The ladder underwent a few upsets this week and has tightened up between Freo who had a shock loss to the Giants and Sydney who beat the Bullies handsomely and improved their percentage but not enough to be one win from top spot. Lions back to 4th on the ladder and back in town as a big chance for the big dance again! 

Three upsets for Round 17!

Our worst tipping this week was just 2% for the Demons doing a job on the Hawks at their usual stronghold of Launceston.  Next hardest to tip was the Giants ending Freo's 14 straight winning run and was only tipped by 5% of us!  The third upset was the first match of the round as the Lions confirmed their return to form by comfortably beating the Cats on their own dung hill!  It was only tipped by 17% of us!

New Injury Concerns

Biggest Round 17 injury concerns

Lachie Whitfield (GWS) – concussion
This looks like the biggest headline injury of the round. Whitfield was having a huge influence against Fremantle with 20 first-half disposals before being ruled out after an elbow to the head from Sean Darcy just before half-time. He’ll now enter concussion protocols, which puts his availability for next week in doubt.

Hayden Young (Fremantle) – groin
Young left Fremantle’s loss to GWS in the second half with a groin issue. That will be one to watch closely given his importance to the Dockers’ midfield and ball movement.

Darcy Gardiner (Brisbane) – hamstring
Gardiner appeared to suffer a hamstring injury in Brisbane’s win over Geelong. The report suggested it looked significant enough to warrant concern, so he looms as one of the major casualties of the round pending scans.

Zac Bailey (Brisbane) – hamstring tightness
Bailey also finished Brisbane’s win with hamstring tightness. That may prove more precautionary than serious, but it still puts him on the Round 18 watchlist.

Riley Thilthorpe (Adelaide) – illness
Not an in-game injury, but still important. Thilthorpe was a late withdrawal before Adelaide’s win over West Coast because of illness. The Crows were reportedly confident it would only sideline him for one week.

Other injuries from the round

• Jack Ross (Richmond) – concussion
• Lewis Young (Carlton) – concussion
• George Wardlaw (North Melbourne) – hamstring
• Connor Budarick (Western Bulldogs) – ankle

In short

The biggest-name injury worries from Round 17 look to be Whitfield, Young, Gardiner and Bailey, with Whitfield’s concussion and Gardiner’s hamstring probably the standout concerns.

Believe it or not, you really had to get all 7 correct for the round. There was just the one lucky (bastard) winner this week earning $66.50.

This week's ladder is remarkably stable - bugger!! Still lonesome at the top of the ladder, we have Gary Wood on 107 points. Then that Canadian exile Grant Williams on 106 points. Two more reprobates follow in Ben Stevens and Randall Kiesewetter on 104 points. Just slightly adrift are Bernie Hoffmann, Chris Cox and Catherine Nairn on 103 points. The crowd then gathers with Amy Challans, Leonie Challans, Anthony Beck, Darren Garbin, Ian Mills, Vicki Allen, David Shaw, Ian Duncan and Nicole King on 102 points. Adelaide Crows – back to 5th on the ladder after taking care of the plucky Eagles who didn't lie down in the West.  The Crows host the SUns next week at AO on Saturday night and Gold Coast gave the Pies a huge scare so they seem to have recovered from their recent slump.

Port Adelaide – stayed at 15th on the ladder despite beating North.  But their percentage is now ahead of the Suns so that might help nest week.  The Power have the opportunity to overtake the Suns or Giants if either or both teams were to lose next week (and the Power win of course). Port play the Suns at Marvel on Saturday afternoon.

Next week still normal. Given we pack up in Townsville on Sunday night the results might be super brief!

ISTS Footy Pools for 2026 - Round 16 

Last week of 7 matches to tip.  The Dogs, Cats, Saints and Demons had byes this week.  Hmmm was that a deliberate pairing of opposites to have BYEs?.  And the FIFA World Cup has reached the knockout stage for most groups and Australia drew nil all with Paraguay on Tuesday and really should have scored in the first half from their 10 or so attempts.  The draw was enough to get them to the knockout stage and it looks like they will play Egypt on Thursday!

The ladder has now evened up so that all teams have played the same number of matches.  So what you see now is a more accurate picture of ladder positions without the confusion of factoring in BYEs.

Just one upset for Round 16!

Our worst tipping this week was 8% for, of all things, Showdown 60 where the plucky Power pulled of a prized win over the all ordinary Crows who only really turned up in the first term.  The rest were pretty easy except the Lions were only predicted by 41% of us.

New Injury Concerns

Round 16 was relatively kind to the AFL's biggest stars, with no confirmed season-ending injuries. However, several prominent players finished the weekend under an injury cloud.

• Izak Rankine (Adelaide) – The biggest scare of the round came in the Showdown when Rankine's right leg was trapped in a tackle by Zak Butters late in the first quarter. He left the field and returned with heavy strapping on his right knee. Although he played out the match, he had little impact after returning, finishing with just 12 disposals. Adelaide reported no official injury after the game, but his condition will be closely monitored this week.
• Mason Redman (Essendon) – Redman battled through ongoing soreness in his left knee, collecting 29 disposals despite clearly being hampered. He finished the match, but the Bombers will assess him before Round 17.
• Harry McKay (Carlton) – McKay received a poke to the eye late in Carlton's win over West Coast but was able to continue. The incident is not expected to sideline him.

Among other injuries:

• Cooper Duff-Tytler (West Coast) suffered a calf injury and was substituted.
• Harvey Langford Wardlaw (North Melbourne) injured his right knee against Essendon.
• Tom Hotton (Richmond) finished with a corked quad.

The good news for fans is that the round produced few serious injuries to marquee players. Most clubs appear likely to head into Round 17 with their star players available, pending scans and fitness tests later this week.

Then struggling to stay with them are Catherine Nairn, Leonie Challans, Ben Stevens and Randall Kiesewetter on 98 points. Port Adelaide – stayed at 15th on the ladder despite their big win over the Crows.  They still need to catch up to the Giants or Sainters who are one match ahead on the ladder but similar percentages.   The Power take on North at home on Sunday at 4:10pm next week which should count in their favour as long as they bring the same endeavour to their clash with the Kangas as they did for Showdown 60.

ISTS Footy Pools for 2026 - Round 15 

Also 7 matches to tip this week.  Lions, Swans, Bombers and Eagles had byes this week.  And the FIFA World Cup is in full swing.   The Socceroos had a disappointing loss to the USA  0 - 2.  That puts them on the back foot a bit for making it through to the elimination rounds but they just need a draw against Paraguay to maker it through.   Check out Matches | FIFA World Cup 2026™

This was the 4th of 5 rounds which have byes.  So, the ladder will continue to be hard to read as different teams have played a different number of matches, until the end of round 16.

One upset for Round 15!

Our worst tipping this week was 11% for the Blues getting over the Giants.  Just this one.  The rest apparently better than 50%.

New Injury Concerns

Round 15 produced several significant injury concerns across the competition, with some clubs facing potentially important absences heading into the second half of the season.

• Jack Sinclair (St Kilda) – The Saints co-captain suffered a right calf injury against the Western Bulldogs. The concern came from the non-contact nature of the incident, with Sinclair unable to continue and later seen in a protective boot.
• Tom De Koning (St Kilda) – Left the Bulldogs match with rib soreness/injury and did not finish the game.
• Rowan Marshall (St Kilda) – Battled through after hurting his left shoulder in a heavy ruck contest and spent extended time off the ground.
• Esava Ratugolea (Port Adelaide) – Suffered the most serious injury of the round. He was stretchered off after a collision and was later reported to have a ruptured patella tendon, with expectations he could miss up to 12 months.
• Jack Lukosius (Port Adelaide) – Hurt his calf after recently returning from an earlier injury setback.
• Ewan Mackinlay (Port Adelaide) – Sustained an ankle injury in the same chaotic passage of play that also injured Ratugolea.
• Daniel Rioli (Gold Coast Suns) – Suffered a jaw injury following contact and was ruled out during the loss to Hawthorn.
• Jarman Impey (Hawthorn) – Left the game early with a hamstring injury, a concern given his excellent season.
• Jayden Laverde (Greater Western Sydney Giants) – Finished early against Carlton due to hamstring soreness.
• Hayden Young (Fremantle Dockers) – Had a knee scare against Geelong but returned to the field and played out the match, easing immediate concerns.

Overall, St Kilda and Port Adelaide appear to have suffered the biggest injury blows, with the Sinclair and Ratugolea situations looking the most concerning pending official club updates.

Port Adelaide – stayed at 15th on the ladder after the Magpies overhauled them in the second half for Pot's second loss in a row.  

It is the Power's home Showdown next week on Saturday night at Adelaide Oval and Port will be keen to avenge that narrow loss to the Crows arlier this year.

ISTS Footy Pools for 2026 - Round 14

No upsets for Round 14!

Our worst tipping this week was 42% for Adelaide getting over the Bulldogs in the first match of the round.   The rest were tipped by better than that!  So it must have been quite easy, right?

New Injury Concerns

·         Archie Roberts (Essendon) – Shoulder dislocation

This looks like the biggest immediate concern of the round. Roberts injured his shoulder against Melbourne and didn’t return. Reports suggest surgery is being considered and there is concern it could end his season. For Essendon, losing one of their promising young rebound defenders would be a major blow.

·         Harrison Petty (Melbourne) – Hamstring

Petty finished Melbourne’s win over Essendon carrying a hamstring concern. Melbourne remained optimistic immediately after the match, but scans were expected to determine severity.

·         Lucas Cooke (Melbourne) – Cheekbone injury

Cooke also suffered a facial injury, with surgery considered possible. Early indications suggested this may be a shorter-term issue than Petty’s.

·         Hamish Davis (West Coast) – Concussion

Davis was concussed in a heavy tackle against North Melbourne and took no further part. Concussion protocols mean he is expected to miss at least the immediate short term. The incident also led to a suspension for North’s Paul Curtis.

·         Luke Pedlar (Adelaide) – Hamstring

Pedlar’s strong night against the Bulldogs ended early with a hamstring injury before half-time, becoming the one sour note in Adelaide’s dominant win.

So with no real upsets this week, perhaps we had a truck load of punters getting all 7 correct?   Let's all look together!

Port Adelaide – stayed at 15th on the ladder over the Eagles despite losing another close one to the much fancied Swans.   Next week the Power travel to the MCG to take on the Magpies on Saturday night.  It is not out of the question for the Power to get over the Pies who are having their June slump!

ISTS Footy Pools for 2026 - Round 13 

Just 8 matches to tip this week as the Giants and Tigers had a bye.

This was the 2nd of 5 rounds which have byes.  So, the ladder will continue to be hard to read as different teams have played a different number of matches, until the end of round 16.

Two and arguably Three upsets for Round 13!

The Doggies stitching up the Hawkers was not a popular choice with us punters.   Just 6% picked this one making it a big upset.  Second on the list is Brisbane finding form and beating the Suns at Carrara which was only tipped by 24% of us.   And you could make a case for Port Adelaide hanging on to win agains West Coast at Optus Stadium in the west although 37% of us managed to tips that.

New Injury Concerns

• Callum Ah Chee (Adelaide) – Hamstring
  Ah Chee was having an excellent game in Adelaide’s one-point win over Geelong, including an important role limiting Tom Stewart’s influence, before leaving in the third quarter with a hamstring injury. Hamstrings often bring multi-week concerns depending on severity.
   
• Jordon Butts (Adelaide) – Calf
  Another concern for the Crows from the same match. Butts was sidelined with a calf issue late in the game.
   
• Reuben Ginbey (West Coast) – Quad
  One of the bigger blows of the round. Ginbey, enjoying an All-Australian calibre season, injured his quad chasing Mitch Georgiades against Port Adelaide and could be facing time out.
   
• Tom McCartin (Sydney) – Concussion
  McCartin was ruled out after a heavy collision against St Kilda. Given concussion protocols, he will miss at least the immediate short term.
   
• Justin McInerney (Sydney) – Hamstring tightness
  Subbed out at half-time after appearing to tweak the hamstring. Sydney will assess whether it is a strain or precautionary.
   
• Lachie Weller (Gold Coast) – Hamstring
  Left the QClash defeat to Brisbane with a hamstring issue.
   
• Will Graham (Gold Coast) – Hamstring
  Added to the Suns’ injury concerns in the same game.
   
• Lachie McNeil (Western Bulldogs) – Concussion
  Ruled out early in the Bulldogs’ comeback win over Hawthorn.
   
• Riley Hardeman (North Melbourne) – Concussion
  Left the heavy loss to Fremantle before half-time.

Adelaide Crows – stayed 8th on the ladder after a thrilling win holding on over the Catters who had 4 more scoring shots (5 of which we behinds - go figure).  It has been a long time since Adelaide have beaten the Catters and was one for the ages!    Next week the Crowies travel to Melbounre to take on the Dogs at Marvel Stadium on another Thursday night match at 7pm.  A must winf or the Crows if the want to jump into the tops 6.

Port Adelaide – up to 15th on the ladder with a nail biting win over the Eagles in the West.   Next week the Power host 2nd placed on the ladder, Sydney Swans at home on Saturday night at 7:05pm.  A real challenge and test.

Next week just 4 teams have the Bye in the Pies, Blues, Hawks and Dockers.  So just 7 to tip for.

ISTS Footy Pools for 2026 - Round 12 

This was the first of 5 rounds which have byes for 4, 2, 4, 4 and 4 teams successively.  So the laddder might be a bit hard to read as different teams have played a different number of matches, until the end of round 16.

So it should have been a lot easier than last week - right?  Half the number of upsets.  Just 3% picked the Blues over the Cats.  Carlton notched up their 3rd win in a row!  Was Voss really that bad as a coach?  Or have the cattle been stung into action?   From our tipsters point of view 3 out of 4 of us got on the Demons band wagon but the Giants sorted them out in Alice Springs!

New Injury Concerns

• Sam Flanders suffered what appeared to be a serious Achilles injury against Hawthorn. He was assisted from the field and did not return, with fears he could face a lengthy stint on the sidelines.
   
• Jamie Elliott suffered a suspected serious knee injury late in Collingwood's loss to the Western Bulldogs after landing awkwardly in a marking contest. He was stretchered from the ground, making it one of the most concerning injuries of the round.
   
• Darcy Moore again battled soft-tissue problems, leaving his game with a hamstring issue. It continues an interrupted season for the Magpies captain.
   
• Keidean Coleman was ruled out early against Fremantle with a hamstring injury, adding to Brisbane's growing list of unavailable defenders.Believe.

So with just the 2 out of 7 upsets - surely a few people got all 7 right?   Let's all look together!

Port Adelaide – 16th on the ladder with the Bye round dropping them a bit.  Next week they "Go West..." to face the Eagles on Saturday night at Optus Stadium at 7:45pm Adelaide time.  It will be tough as West Coast are on a high especially on their home dung hill.

Next week just two teams have the Bye in the Giants and Tigers, so we have 8 matches to tip!

This weeks commentary started by Rocky and due to his Lion\'s commitments, finished by Peter. So will notice a change in style if you work your way through the games. Ive decided to go ott with bullet points in my summary.

A really big move this week with Grant Williams up 19 positions into 3rd place. At this time of the season, that will set him up for a significant run at the top prize. Well done Grant.

A couple of crazy results this week:

• The Bombers only being able to kick 7 goals against a completely undermined Richmond.
• Gold Coast collapsing against North who were hammered by the Crows last week. Port went in as favorites but couldnt go with Carlton. Did the trying conditions in Darwin last week contribute to those results. Ollie Wines said he had never played in such tough conditions and he only had 5 possessions against Carlton. He had 45% time on ground and vitually no pressure acts.
• GWS crushing the Lions after they lost to West Coast last week. How did that happen? Lions have an amazing mid-field with Neale, Ashcroft, Dunkley etc but they got hammered. Are Brisbane just waiting for finals to start?

Still two "interstate" (= Non-Victorian) matches on Friday night!  

Although just the one upset then on Friday night with a portent of more to come.

FOUR upsets for Round 10!

Wow - Reigning Premiers the Lions rolled by Cats!  Picked by just 9%.  Demons defeating the Hawkers was a 6% prediction - our tips looking sad.  The the Blues beat the Bulldogs!  Just 15% there.  Then in the final match of round 10, the Eagles slipped passed the Giants to be predicted by just 17%.

New Injury Concerns

Round 10 brought another heavy injury toll across the AFL, with several big-name players either ruled out during games or facing uncertain recovery timelines heading into the next round.

• Darcy Moore suffered another concussion against Geelong after a heavy collision with Oisin Mullin and was subbed out at half-time. The Magpies skipper is expected to miss at least one match under concussion protocols.
• Oscar Steene hurt his left knee against Sydney and left the field distressed in the third quarter. The injury looked serious and forced a major reshuffle in Collingwood’s ruck setup.
• Harry Edwards endured his third concussion of the season against Melbourne after accidental contact from teammate Elliot Yeo. Given his recent history, the Eagles are likely to take a cautious approach.
• Lachie Weller suffered a hamstring injury against Yartapuulti, while teammate Will Graham was concussed in a heavy collision with Aliir Aliir.
• Dayne Zorko was a late withdrawal against Geelong due to management concerns, though it was not reported as a major injury.
• Tom Stewart finished the win over Brisbane with a corked calf after another dominant display.
• Bailey Williams injured his left hamstring against Carlton and could miss multiple weeks.
• Campbell Gray strained a hamstring against Euro-Yroke, adding to Richmond’s already severe injury crisis. Sam Cumming also finished sore with a corked quad.
• Tom Brown suffered a forearm injury against Adelaide in Round 9 carryover concerns, further stretching the Tigers’ depth.
• Jamarra Ugle-Hagan was a late withdrawal for Gold Coast’s Darwin clash because of an ankle issue.
• Nick Haynes battled ankle soreness and a bloodied nose during Carlton’s win over the Bulldogs but played on.

Overall, Collingwood and Richmond appear hardest hit, while West Coast and Gold Coast also have significant concerns coming out of the round.

So now down to business as it is quite likely that not many folks will share the spoils for this week's winnings.  Too many upsets how many defied the odds of picking a majoriyty of upsets without missing the obvious ones? As I like to say, let's all look together!

Port Adelaide – still 14th on the ladder after a disappointing loss to the Suns in the Top End.  Nest week they host the Blues in Adelaide.  They have changed their coach so maybe the Power can win.  But what if they substitute a temporary coach!   Ouch!
